NC
Green Power
Tri-County Electric
Membership Corporation has joined with other utilities across the state through
a new program, NC GreenPower, to offer members the option to improve the environment
with voluntary contributions. Approved by the N. C. Utilities Commission,
NC GreenPower will protect the environment by offering electricity generated
from the earth's renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, water or
organic matter. Electricity generated by these sources is "cleaner" and
environmentally friendly.
How
does NC Green Power work?
The non-profit
company will use voluntary contributions to purchase electricity generated from
wind, solar, water, and organic matter to add to the state's power supply.
Individuals can contribute as little as $4 per month to add one block of 100
kilowatt-hours of renewable energy to the electric grid. More contributions
mean more renewable energy can be made available, making North Carolina's
environment healthier for us all.
So, what
are the benefits?
Supporting NC GreenPower for one year has the same environmental
benefit as planting 150 full-grown trees or not driving a car for 74 days.
Investing in renewable energy will preserve our natural resources.
As the first independent multi-utility green power program in the nation,
NC GreenPower will develop the use of more renewable energy.
