Youth Programs

In 2001, Tri-County EMC established a scholarship program to help students who might not have the opportunity to continue their education.

Since the program began, Tri-County EMC has provided educational funds across our state for students attending many:

  • Universities
  • Community colleges

As part of our commitment to our community, we are pleased to offer:

(Awarded to students attending a community college, junior college, vocational or technical school)

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a member or child of a Tri-County Electric member or live in a home served by Tri-County Electric or attend high school in our service territory (Southern Wayne, Charles B. Aycock, Rosewood, Spring
  • Creek, Eastern Wayne, Wayne School of Engineering, Wayne Early College, North Duplin, East Duplin, Duplin Early College, James Kenan, North Lenoir, Lenoir Early College or South Lenoir High Schools).
  • Must be a high school graduating senior.
  • Non-traditional student must be a member of Tri-County EMC.
  • Deadline for the 2024 Scholarship Applications is March 31, 2024.

Scholarship applications are available from the high school guidance counselor at each school listed above.

Co-op officials and past Youth Tour participants say: Youth Tour is the perfect way for students to grow as a young leader in one of the world’s most influential places. Every year, more than 1,800 exceptional high school students from across the country are selected to participate in the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.

While in D.C., participants will have a chance to:

  • Meet with North Carolina’s elected officials and discuss the critical issues back home
  • Learn about the cooperative business model
  • Visit historic monuments, memorials, and various Smithsonian museums

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour has grown into an:

  • Invaluable program to young leaders
  • Experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives

In addition to a trip to Washington, DC, Youth Tour participants are eligible to apply for several college scholarships:
