In 2025, federal legislation ended the residential solar tax credit earlier than originally planned. As a result, solar systems installed after January 1, 2026, no longer qualify for the federal residential solar tax credit. Homeowners who installed solar panels on or before December 31, 2025, may still be eligible to claim the credit when filing their federal taxes.
