Local Students Represent Tri-County EMC in Washington, D.C.

From June 15–21, 2025, three students—Joanna Prybylinski, Elizabeth Taylor, and Sally Coates—represented Tri-County EMC in our nation’s capital as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. They joined 44 other delegates from across North Carolina for a week of leadership development, civic education, and unforgettable experiences.

Throughout the week, students explored the rich history and iconic landmarks of Washington, D.C., while gaining valuable insight into the role and impact of electric cooperatives. The Youth Tour offered more than just sightseeing—it was a hands-on lesson in democracy, leadership, and public service. From engaging workshops to policy discussions, the experience inspired a deeper understanding of how cooperatives empower the communities they serve.

“We are incredibly proud of Sally, Elizabeth, and Joanna for their leadership, enthusiasm, and the way they represented Tri-County EMC on a national stage,” said Deidra Grantham, manager of marketing and communications for Tri-County EMC. “Their journey truly was a trip of a lifetime—one we hope will spark continued interest in community service, public policy, and cooperative values for years to come.”
