Tri-County EMC is closely monitoring weather conditions and is prepared to respond quickly in the event that the approaching winter weather leads to power outages.
Winter Storm Kingston may bring a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain across our service area. Heavy, wet snow or freezing rain can cause trees and branches to fall or sag onto power lines, which may result in power outages—both of which are possible with this storm.
“Our top priority is serving our members and our communities,” said Deidra Grantham, Manager of Marketing and Communications for Tri-County EMC. “If the storm causes power outages, we will do everything we can to minimize service disruptions while keeping our members informed and safe. Just as we ensure our teams are prepared and ready, we urge our members to take steps now to prepare for potential outages from the impending winter storm.”
As a valued member of our community, your preparedness is crucial. Here are some steps you can take now to get ready:
- Assemble an emergency kit. The kit should include a supply of non-perishable food, water, and medication, as well as any other items you might need in case of a power outage, such as blankets, first-aid supplies, flashlights, and batteries.
- Prepare for outages. Charge cell phones and other important electronic devices, gather medications and important documents, and consider making alternative shelter arrangements if you will be significantly impacted by power disruptions.
- Stay informed. Enable emergency alerts on your cell phone to help you make decisions for you or your family.
While our members prepare at home, Tri-County EMC crews are getting ready by gathering materials, stocking trucks, and testing power restoration equipment. We are fully prepared for this storm and ready to respond quickly and effectively.
“We prepare throughout the year to help minimize power disruptions caused by all types of weather—from tropical storms to winter storms,” Grantham added. “This storm is no different.”
If outages occur, our restoration personnel will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to all members. Tri-County EMC members are encouraged to report any outages by calling our office at 919-735-2611, emailing us at customerservice@tcemc.com, or visiting our online outage center.
