North Carolina’s electric cooperatives are sending high school students from across the state to Washington, D.C. June 17-23 to join more than 1,800 other students from across the country for the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. Tri-County EMC has chosen Tanner Guy to represent our cooperative.
Tanner, the son of Chris and Kelly Guy is a member of the National Honor Society, Golf Team and active member of Long Ridge Free Will Baptist Church.
“The Youth Tour is the highlight of the summer for many students from North Carolina, and we’re proud to send our best and brightest to Washington, D.C. this year to participate,” said Deidra Grantham, Manager of Marketing and Communications. “Tanner will gain a first-hand understanding of the legislative process and make connections with others from across the country that will last a lifetime. Our youth are our future, and Tri-County EMC is committed to providing opportunities for students by continuing the Youth Tour tradition.”
The seven-day youth tour provides an action-filled week for delegates, offering them opportunities to visit with representatives from their congressional districts and tour famous monuments, the Smithsonian Institution’s museums and Arlington National Cemetery.
The annual contest is open to high school juniors who live and attend school in Tri-County EMC’s service area, or who have Tri-County EMC service in their homes.
